Curtains in Palm Jumeirah

Two things make the curtain installation in the Palm different from anywhere else we work: the walls are usually stone, and the air is salty. Both change what we fit and how we fit it, and neither is something you can tell from a photograph.

What sea air does to a curtain

01

The hem goes first

Humid outside air meets cold air conditioning at the glass, and the moisture settles at the lowest point of the panel. We specify mildew-resistant lining as standard, not as an upgrade, and we leave a deliberate gap at floor level so air moves under the fabric instead of sitting in it.

02

Then the hardware

Salt corrodes untreated brackets, glides and chain weights. On sea-facing rooms we use coated or stainless fittings. It is a small line on a quote and the reason a track still runs smoothly in year four.

03

Light arrives twice

Sun comes down from the sky and then bounces back up off the water. Frond villas get lit from below as well as above, which is why a curtain that works perfectly inland still leaves glare here. It changes the drop, and sometimes it changes the fabric.

Do We Drill into Marble For Curtains Installation?

This is the question we are asked first in almost every Palm property, and it is a fair one. Marble cracks from heat and vibration, not from the hole itself. So it is a diamond or masonry bit, hammer action off, slow speed, water or air cooling, and a pilot before the full depth.

On stone we also prefer a ceiling fix where the ceiling allows it, because plaster is far more forgiving than a marble reveal. Where the wall has to be used, we mark, drill and plug one hole at a time rather than running along the line.

Frond villas and some buildings need contractor access arranged through security in advance. We handle that before the fitting day, not on it.

Curtains in Palm Jumeirah

The Palm is really two jobs

Property What We Usually Fit Why
Garden Homes and Signature Villas Wide sheer and blackout pairs on joined panels, ceiling track Sea-facing sliders run past 4m, wider than a single roll of fabric
Shoreline apartments Sheer plus dim-out, marble-safe wall or ceiling fix Compact reveals, stone finishes, direct beach aspect
Golden Mile and Palm Tower Layered pairs on double track, corrosion-rated hardware Tower glass with the same salt exposure as the villas
Majlis and formal rooms Velvet or dense linen, pelmet finish Full coverage, and the fabric weight suits the scale of the rooms
Master suites Triple-weave blackout with mildew-resistant lining Sea-facing bedrooms take both the sunrise and the humidity

Palm Jumeirah questions

No, and the method is why. Diamond or masonry bit, hammer action off, slow speed with cooling, and a pilot hole before full depth. Where the ceiling allows it we fix there instead, because plaster is more forgiving than a stone reveal.

Condensation. Humid sea air meeting cold AC leaves moisture in the hem, and an untreated lining holds it. Mildew-resistant lining and a small floor gap for airflow fix it.

Five to seven working days from measurement and fabric approval, and the fitting itself usually takes most of a day. A Shoreline apartment follows the standard three to five.

The track, yes. The fabric has to be joined, because most rolls stop around 3 metres wide. We match the pattern and place the seam where the fold hides it.

Often, on the Palm. Send us the fabric reference and we will source and produce to it, or work from your designer’s schedule directly.
